What is revealed is as alluring as it is malevolent. Here, we find the same pitch black night cut open by streetlamps and malfunctioning neon signs as they bathe the debauchery below in the most grotesque light. Although the pieces fit seamlessly together, the image that emerges is as decadent and destructive as on Villains’ previous releases. Do not be misled by the use of the word “coherent,” however. In terms of both songwriting and production, each of the songs here works in conjunction with the others to produce a fluid, cohesive album. Indeed, “Road to Ruin” is the band’s most coherent effort to date. What remains is the distilled and potent complex blackened thrash for which Villains have long been revered. Here, the band mostly eschews some of the more standard punk elements present on their last album, although the gritty belligerence of the tracks still reveals the same influences. “Road to Ruin” presents a new collection of eight hymns to the thieves, sluts, junkies, and degenerates that inhabit that realm and all the rituals of depravity in which they indulge. On their third album, Villains again vividly portray that most unholy of temples.the 21st century urban wasteland. The territory explored by this New York band is arguably as dark or darker than most of the pathetic Satanic and occult acts that populate the vast majority of the extreme metal underground. ![]() It is a niche occupied solely by Villains. Here is a live version of the track from Live Sets at Yahoo! Music.Since Villains’ inception in 2003, the band has procured for themselves a unique niche within the spectrum of underground metal. ![]() Here is the official video for Long Road to Ruin. He’s one cool cat, according to this rocking Liberal. Grohl is aces in my book, not only for his music but for his personal and political beliefs. In 2016, despite many rumors to the contrary, the band confirmed that it was not breaking up. The band has released 36 singles, including a number of mainstream rock hits (Learn to Fly, Best of You, Everlong, Wheels, and more). The Foo Fighters have released eight studio albums, a live album, and several EPs and have toured the world as one of the most popular rock bands of the past 30 years. The record was nominated for five Grammys and won the Best Rock Album in 2007. Long Road to Ruin was the second single from Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. Previously, Hawkins was the drummer for Alanis Morissette’s band, and as well as playing drums, is a backing vocalist.) (Drummer and sometimes vocalist Taylor Hawkins joined the Foos at the start of the tour for The Colour and the Shape. From there, the rest is, as they say, history. Grohl then poached two members of the band, Sunny Day Real Estate-bass player, Nate Mendel, and drummer, William Goldsmith-to tour with him as the Foo Fighters. He played and recorded all the instruments himself and was the only official member of “the band.” That first album spawned three hit singles- This Is a Call, I’ll Stick Around, and Big Me. ![]() During World War II, American aircraft fighter pilots referred to UFOs and other unexplained aerial phenomena as “foo fighters.” After Cobain’s death, Grohl recorded the Foo Fighter’s self-titled debut album in 1995. The Fighters’ unusual name has unusual origins. I also wonder how long Grohl’s brilliance could’ve remained hidden behind Cobain’s drug use and his fractious relationship with the world? Sad though it was, Cobain’s death led to the emergence of Grohl and the Foo Fighters. And I think had Cobain not killed himself, Nirvana’s star would’ve fizzled long ago. While Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit is on many critics’ best-of lists, I was always more enamored with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden than I ever was with Nirvana. I’ll be the first to admit that I was never as smitten with Cobain and Nirvana as were many music critics and fans. Who knew back in the 1990s that the most talented guy in Nirvana wasn’t Kurt Cobain? And who could’ve ever guessed that Nirvana’s drummer, Dave Grohl wasn’t just a drummer-he was a singer, a guitarist, a first-rate showman, and a drummer?

In Lr, what that means is that upon re-opening Lr (note all the database sources of images like Lr, Photos, Aperture have to be closed in order for Photo Sweeper to work) they are placed into a "Photo Sweeper Trash" collection, and flagged as "Rejected." And have different views and so on.įourth, at the end you mark the ones you want to remove. Third, you can see all the exif and other info as you browse and compare. Photo Sweeper makes it easier to do that since it's oriented to how most photographers work. And in any case, as long as you're doing it, might as well cull. Sometimes you're not looking for just the exact copy of the image, but very very very similar images. There are brackets, panorama groups, pairs, etc. There isn't really any simple or auto way to cull real duplicates for an avid photographer. Second, it has a lot of control over how you compare. I think even iPhotos and Capture One too. You can even browse within the libraries. It can look into Photos libraries, Aperture libraries, and Lr Classic libraries to find images to compare, as well as any Finder folders. That led me to Photo Sweeper X, which is quite nice, and better than either Snapselect or the Lr plugins.įirst, it works on anything. So I first tried Macphun's Snapselect, which they've since abandoned (of course). And part of my problem was that I was moving from Aperture at the time, and also had some unimported stuff that was sort of betwixt and between. First, because they seemed kind of limited, and also because in my case they only worked with images I had in Lr. I tried a couple of Lr plugins for finding dupes and didn't find them that helpful.
